The ruling Unity Party (UP) has called on Commerce Minister Amin Modad to take all necessary steps to clear his name regarding the purchase of a luxury vehicle for the Ministry of Commerce. The vehicle in question, according to an official release from the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), was acquired after the Ministry requested a vehicle for the Destination Inspection Program at the Freeport of Monrovia.
Speaking at a press conference, UP National Chairman Luther Tarpeh addressed the issue, stating that while the party is neither accusing Minister Modad of corruption nor defending him, he must produce all relevant documents to exonerate himself. Tarpeh emphasized the need for transparency, noting that it is crucial for Modad to clarify his role in the vehicle purchase.
“While we are not making any accusations, we believe it is important for Minister Modad to present evidence that clears his name,” Tarpeh said. “The Unity Party will not support any government official found guilty of corruption.”
The statement serves as a reminder to all government officials, including Minister Modad, that the Unity Party will not condone any form of corruption within its ranks.
