The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Cybastion Institute of Technology to establish a data center and implement a new underwater cable to improve the country’s digital infrastructure.
The MOU signifies Liberia’s intent to advance technical discussions with relevant government agencies under the “Digital Fast Track Program.” This initiative aims to enhance Liberia’s digital services and infrastructure, promoting a shift toward digital transformation.
During the signing ceremony held in New York, Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, emphasized the importance of the agreement, particularly for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, due to its role in ensuring secure communication. She noted that as Liberia integrates further into global governance structures and plays a part in maintaining peace and security, it is essential for the nation to secure its communication systems.
Minister Nyanti highlighted the opportunity for Liberia to join a platform that ensures information security on a global scale. She pointed out that the MOU comes at a time when Liberia is actively focusing on e-governance and advancing its technological capabilities.
The MOU outlines that the Liberia Telecommunications Authority and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, will spearhead the implementation of the agreement’s key components.
