The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to adopt best practices and strategies in the broadcasting industry.

Speaking at the signing ceremony which took place on August 17, 2021 at the Broadcasting House in Accra, Director General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan said the MOU will help the Corporation and LBS to establish a collaborative relationship that will cover staff capacity development and content exchange.

The MOU forms part of the itinerary of the delegation from the Liberia Broadcasting Systems’, LBS’s, three-day working visit to Ghana.

The delegation led by the Director-General, Madam Estelle Liberty Kemoh was also accompanied by the Deputy Director-General, Sorbor George and a Consultant, Aaron Kollie.

Signing the MOU, Director-General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan was optimistic that the partnership will ensure the innovative and strategic transformation of both the GBC and the LBS to enable them to keep up with the news and emerging trends in the industry.

He said, “It is against this backdrop that GBC is working hard to shift its focus from bureaucracy to business, citing the transformation of the GTV Breakfast Show to make it more lively and interactive”.

Professor Alhassan also hinted that management’s next target will be GBC’s religious channel, GTV life. He added that “plans are far advanced to change it to a Lifestyle channel with the youth in focus”.

The Director-General of LBS, Madam Estelle Liberty Kemoh, expressed the readiness of her country and team to share experiences in broadcasting technology, “assist with valuable broadcast equipment, and short-term placement of technical and professional personnel for Radio and Television digital upgrade among others”.

Liberian Consultant, Aaron Kollie said, “Although the Liberian Public Broadcaster is struggling to adapt to the changing trends in the industry, it will make a conscious effort to replicate GBC’s success story”.

The delegation toured the studios and Newsroom of Radio and Television and observed production of some live programmes among others.
