The US State Department has said Islamic state in West Africa Province (ISWAP) will not get the $7 million bounty it placed on Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect.
It has been reported that Shekau died during a gun battle with members of ISWAP
Reacting to the news, the US State Department in a tweet shared in the late hours of yesterday May 20, said the bounty won’t be given to ISWAP as it is not meant for a group under ISIS.
The tweet read;
“News reports today indicate that Boko Haram terrorist Abubakar Shekau blew himself up in a confrontation with ISIS affiliates. Hey, ISIS guys. To clarify: no – you are not eligible for the reward for information on his identity or location. That’s not how the program works.\”
