On Wednesday, May 19,2021, the U.S. embassy in Monrovia issued a Statement on Liberian Senate Committee Leadership. In the statement, The Embassy strongly condemns the election of what it terms notorious warlord Prince Y. Johnson as Chair of the Liberian Senate Committee on Defense and Intelligence. The Embassy said, Senator Johnson’s gross human rights violations during Liberia’s civil wars are well-documented; his continued efforts to protect himself from accountability, enrich his own coffers and sow division are also well known. That the Liberian Senate would see fit to elevate him to a leadership role – particularly in the area in which he has done this country the most harm – creates doubts as to the seriousness of the Senate as a steward of Liberia’s defense and security. The U.S. government is proud of our longstanding partnership with the Ministry of National Defense and Armed Forces of Liberia which will continue – but we can have no relationship with Senator Johnson.
In an apparent Response to the U.S Embassy on a local radio station Wednesday evening in Monrovia, Senator Prince Johnson said he has visited the Embassy on two different occasions as chairman on the Senate Defense Committee and he has served as chairman of the Committee under former president Sirleaf administration but due to his workings at the ECOWAS Parliament, he resigned. Senator Johnson said after he left the ECOWAS Parliament, that’s how he was reelected by his colleagues to serve as the Defense Committee head.
“I’m not desperate for that position because it has no additional pay so I will resign, if being the head of the Senate Defense Committee will serve as obstacle. I want for the AFL, the Bureau of Immigration and other institutions to get the necessary support and I don’t to be an impediment any support or findings so I will resign if that’s what will make those institutions get support” senator Johnson said.

I must greatly appreciate the American Embassy for statement, gradually we are getting there. Those that killed our people will surely pay for it.
