A total of 12 inmates serving at the Gbarnga Central Prison have escaped from detention in a recent jailbreak, Bong County Attorney Jonathan Flomo disclosed Wednesday, March 17.

According to Attorney Flomo, over twelve inmates are said to be on the run following a jailbreak at the Gbarnga Central Prison in the County.

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Attorney Jonathan Flomo said the twelve inmates were all pre-trial detainees.

Flomo, however, said; the inmates were seventeen in a single cell, but twelve of the seventeen inmates were successful in breaking the cell on the early morning hours of Wednesday and all twelve escaped.

The Bong County Attorney told newsmen that the twelve inmates are currently on the run and called on citizens of the county to be on the alert.

Flomo said the inmates were all high code criminals who were placed behind bars following police’s preliminary investigations in the county about their alleged allegations.

According to Flomo, the escapee\’s charges range from gang rape, murder, criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, theft of property, burglary, criminal mischief, and several other charges that were pending investigation by the court.

Attorney Flomo described the jailbreak at the Gbarnga Central Prison as a major threat to citizens of the County.

He called on citizens of Bong County to be watchful about strange people in their communities and aid the security of the county with the necessary information to have the alleged criminals rearrested.

The Bong County Attorney said the joint security of the county has launched an investigation amongst prison authorities regarding the \”hard to believe jailbreak at the huge prison facility in Gbarnga.\”

It\’s not very clear as to how the inmates escaped as the Gbarnga prison has very high Walls, like the windows. There\’s not a single mark on the fence or gate of the compound.

Many citizens in the county have taken on various radio stations including social media, particularly Facebook, to express their dismay.

According to them, only 12 inmates can\’t leave the facility among 17 persons in the same prison cell.

\”What is the point? Do you mean the remaining 5 inmates don\’t need freedom? Where were the securities? They never heard the sound? We need to be serious in the county\” they wondered.

According to them, there are more unanswered questions regarding this matter.

They openly call for a probe from the Justice Ministry in order to ensure that the right things are done.

The Gbarnga prison compound is challenged with overcrowding, thereby leaving to this continuous act.
