A high-profile land dispute in Monrovia has escalated into a criminal investigation following the arrest of businessman Eric Nagbe, who now faces serious allegations of document forgery linked to a contested property in Congo Town.

Nagbe was taken into custody by the Monrovia City Court amid claims that he used a falsified court-issued eviction order to assert control over a piece of land located opposite the WAEC Liberia office. What initially appeared to be a tense civil disagreement over property ownership has now evolved into a case raising broader concerns about the integrity of legal processes.

The accusations center on assertions that Nagbe presented or acted upon an eviction document that may not have been legitimately issued by the court. This development has heightened public attention and placed the matter under intense scrutiny, as questions emerge about how such a document could have been produced and used.

Adding to the unfolding controversy, Shadrash Thomas, who says he is part of a group occupying the disputed land, provided an account that investigators may find significant. According to Thomas, on the night of April 8, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Nagbe was allegedly seen in the Congo Town area with a yellow earth-moving machine.

Thomas further claimed that during that encounter, Nagbe indicated he had gone to “perfect an eviction order”, a statement that is now being closely examined in light of the forgery allegations.

The reported late-night activity, involving heavy machinery and references to enforcing an eviction, has raised concerns about whether due legal procedures were followed. It also introduces a timeline that could prove critical as authorities work to establish the authenticity of the eviction order in question.

As the investigation progresses, legal observers say the case could have far-reaching implications, not only for the parties involved but also for public confidence in the handling of land disputes and judicial documentation in Liberia.

Authorities have yet to release detailed findings, but the outcome of the probe is expected to determine whether the matter remains a civil dispute or proceeds as a full criminal prosecution.
