Monrovia — A formal leadership transition has taken place at the National Elections Commission (NEC), as outgoing Chairperson Davidetta Browne-Lasana officially handed over authority to Acting Chairperson Jonathan K. Weedor, underscoring a commitment to continuity and institutional stability.

The turnover ceremony, held at the NEC headquarters on 9th Street, Sinkor, brought together members of the Commission and staff to witness the transition at Liberia’s Electoral Management Body.

During the ceremony, Madam Browne-Lasana formally presented a comprehensive turnover note to her successor, detailing key institutional updates and a financial report. She also disclosed that the General Auditing Commission (GAC) successfully conducted an audit during her tenure, highlighting ongoing efforts toward transparency and accountability within the Commission.

In her remarks, Browne-Lasana expressed appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for the opportunity to serve, while extending gratitude to the NEC Secretariat, staff, her family, and the Liberian people for their support throughout her time in office.

She further assured the incoming leadership of her willingness to offer guidance when needed, reaffirming her readiness to continue serving the country in any capacity if called upon.

Taking the helm, Acting Chairman Weedor described his return to the NEC as a “homecoming,” acknowledging the leadership of his predecessor and commending the efforts of the Commission’s management team.

He called for sustained cooperation among staff and leadership, emphasizing that his role is grounded in service to the Liberian people. Weedor also stressed that the Commission’s work will continue without disruption, noting that plans are already underway to engage staff and advance key institutional priorities.

The transition marks a new chapter for the NEC as it seeks to maintain public confidence and uphold its mandate of conducting credible and transparent elections in Liberia.
