Kolahun District, Lofa County — Grief has gripped members of the Ndambu Evangelical Church and residents of Gbandi Chiefdom following the tragic death of Pastor Ndorbor Johnson, who perished in a farm fire on February 28, 2026.
Local authorities reported that Pastor Johnson was participating in routine seasonal farm burning when the fire unexpectedly intensified and spread beyond control. In the process, he became trapped by the advancing flames.
A 15-member jury constituted to examine the incident has ruled out any suspicion of foul play. After reviewing the circumstances, jurors determined that the pastor attempted to flee the fire but was unable to find a clear escape route.
“The body was not found on the exact farm plot,” a jury member disclosed. “He had moved toward an open space, but the fire surrounded him before he could get out.”
News of the pastor’s death has sent shockwaves across Gbandi Chiefdom, where he was widely admired for his dedication to spiritual leadership and community service. Since the incident, family members, congregants, and residents have been seen in mourning as tributes continue to pour in.
Pastor Johnson is survived by six children. His family has appealed to well-wishers and members of the public for support as they navigate this difficult period.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police has acknowledged the jury’s findings and renewed its call for farmers to strictly adhere to safety precautions during seasonal farm burning, warning that negligence can result in fatal consequences.
