A tragic railway accident in the White Plains area has left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to the Liberia National Police (LNP).
Police confirmed that the fatal collision occurred late Wednesday night when a vehicle reportedly attempted to cross a railway track and was struck by an oncoming train traveling from Monrovia.
Preliminary findings from the police investigation indicate that the crash resulted in one fatality, while a second individual sustained serious injuries. The injured victim was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Authorities have identified the deceased as a foreign national who was visiting Liberia at the time of the incident.
Officers assigned to the White Plains area have since launched a full-scale investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police is urging motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution when approaching railway crossings. Authorities emphasized the importance of observing road safety regulations and ensuring that railway tracks are clear before attempting to cross in order to prevent similar tragedies.
