The Government of Liberia is urging citizens to remain calm as it intensifies diplomatic efforts to address the developing situation along the Liberia–Guinea border.
In a statement issued Tuesday from Capitol Hill in Monrovia, the government assured the public that it is actively managing the situation and engaging through established diplomatic channels to prevent further tensions along the border. Officials say the approach is aimed at ensuring that any concerns arising between the two neighboring countries are resolved peacefully and in the spirit of cooperation that has historically defined relations between Liberia and Guinea.
According to the statement, the Liberian government is coordinating closely with relevant national and local authorities who are in communication with their Guinean counterparts. These engagements are intended to prevent escalation while promoting dialogue between the two sides.
As part of the response, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has in recent days dispatched a high-level inter-ministerial delegation to the border area to assess the situation and facilitate discussions with Guinean authorities.
The delegation comprises representatives from the Ministries of Defense, Local Government, Foreign Affairs, and Justice. Their mission focuses on addressing the current concerns along the border, strengthening cooperation between local officials on both sides, and ensuring that peace and stability are maintained in communities located near the frontier.
Government officials say Liberia remains committed to resolving the matter through diplomacy and constructive dialogue, in line with the country’s longstanding foreign policy of maintaining peaceful and friendly relations with its neighbors in the region.
Meanwhile, the government is appealing to citizens—particularly those living in border communities—to remain law-abiding and to rely on verified information from official sources.
Authorities also cautioned the public against spreading unconfirmed reports, warning that misinformation could heighten fear and misunderstandings at a sensitive time.
The government assured the public that it will continue to provide updates as discussions with Guinean authorities progress.
