The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Accra has confirmed that it is actively engaging Ghanaian authorities following the tragic death of a Liberian national, Austin Tengbeh, aged 26.
In an official statement issued on March 1, 2026, the Embassy disclosed that the fatal incident occurred on February 27, 2026, in the Lashibi–Sakumono area of Accra. The Embassy said it was formally notified of the matter a day later and immediately initiated contact with relevant authorities in Ghana to obtain verified information and ensure that due legal procedures are being followed.
According to the Embassy, engagements were promptly made with the Crime Unit of the Sakumono District Police. Information provided by the Ghana Police Service indicates that the case remains under active investigation. Authorities have reportedly made arrests in connection with the incident, while efforts continue to apprehend other suspects believed to have been involved.
Preliminary details shared with the Embassy suggest that Mr. Tengbeh, a resident of the Spintex area, had gone to visit a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation occurred, eventually leading to the fatal outcome. Police officers responded to the scene and transported him to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Embassy stated that it has been in continuous communication with individuals connected to the incident, members of the Liberian community in Ghana, and the appropriate Ghanaian authorities. Efforts are also underway to formally reach Mr. Tengbeh’s next of kin in order to provide consular assistance and necessary support.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Embassy said it will continue to closely monitor developments and remain actively engaged with Ghanaian authorities to ensure the matter is handled in accordance with Ghanaian law.
The Government of Liberia, through its Embassy, extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the wider Liberian community, describing the death as a profound loss. Liberians in Ghana were urged to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed, with the Embassy expressing confidence in due process and the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries.
The Embassy noted that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
