Authorities at the Bo-Waterside Port of Entry have arrested a Guinean national after uncovering illicit drugs and a staggering sum of cash during a routine inspection, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has announced.
The suspect, identified as Alpha M. Jalloh, 45, a Guinean national and resident of Mamba Point in Monrovia, was apprehended on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM. He was intercepted while operating a blue Toyota mini-bus bearing Guinean license plate BH-5002, which he reportedly owns.
According to the LDEA, officers conducting the search discovered two packs of Tapentadol Tramadol concealed within the vehicle. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of around LD$50,000, equivalent to roughly $277 USD.
More significantly, the search led to the discovery of a large cache of cash hidden inside the vehicle, totaling USD $1,187,000. Authorities have not yet disclosed the origin or intended use of the funds, as investigations remain ongoing.
Jalloh is currently in custody as the LDEA continues its probe, emphasizing that all legal procedures will be followed to ensure due process.
This development comes shortly after another operation by the same LDEA detachment, which resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs and $150,000 in cash, signaling what authorities describe as a sustained crackdown on cross-border trafficking activities.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tightening security at Liberia’s entry points and urged the public to support ongoing efforts aimed at combating drug-related crimes.
