The Baatsona District Court in Accra Ghana has denied a bail application filed on behalf of five suspects linked to the tragic killing of Liberian national Austin Tengbeh, marking a significant development in the ongoing case.

During proceedings, defense lawyers representing the accused, Francis Amuzu, William Adison, Vincent Adzikah, Enoch Mensah, and Ajilim Bwateng, petitioned the court to grant bail, arguing that their clients are entitled to it under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. They maintained that the accused individuals are willing to cooperate fully with the judicial process, comply with any conditions imposed, and do not pose a flight risk.

The defense further contended that the suspects should be allowed to prepare their case outside of detention as investigations continue.

However, presiding judge Mabel Ahele rejected the application, citing the seriousness of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the case. The court ruled that granting bail at this stage would not be in the interest of justice, pointing to concerns about the integrity of the ongoing investigation and the potential for interference.

As a result of the ruling, all five suspects will remain in custody while legal proceedings continue.

The case, which stems from the alleged lynching of the 26-year-old in the Lashibi–Sakumono community of Accra, has been adjourned to April 27, 2026, for further hearing.

The decision highlights the gravity with which the court is treating the matter, as efforts to secure justice for Mr. Tengbeh remain ongoing.
