Monrovia, Liberia – The Catholic Church in Liberia has announced the deaths of two priests serving under the Archdiocese of Monrovia, describing their passing as a painful loss to the Church and the wider Christian community.

In separate announcements, the Church confirmed the deaths of Rev. Father Alphonsus B. Mombo, 57, of the St. Charles Lwanga Pre-Major Seminary in Pipeline, and Rev. Father Roland G. Biah, 53, of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Gardnersville.

The statements, signed by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Monrovia, Very Rev. Ambrose Dayouga Kroma, paid tribute to both clergymen, portraying them as compassionate and committed servants who dedicated their lives to ministry and the spiritual well-being of others.

According to the Church, Fathers Mombo and Biah served faithfully in their respective assignments and were widely respected for their humility, pastoral care, and dedication to the mission of the Catholic faith in Liberia.

While the official statements did not specify the circumstances surrounding their deaths, information gathered from church and family sources indicates that both priests had traveled to Buchanan in Grand Bassa County to console and offer spiritual support to a grieving family when the incident reportedly occurred.

The news of their passing has triggered widespread shock and mourning among Catholic faithful across Liberia, with many parishioners expressing deep sorrow over the loss of two respected religious leaders.

In his message, Rev. Kroma called on priests, religious leaders, and members of the Catholic community to remember the deceased in their prayers, particularly during the recitation of the Holy Rosary, as the Church honors their lives and service.

Their deaths have left a profound void within the Archdiocese of Monrovia, as the Catholic community reflects on their years of dedication to the Church and the people they served.
