Voinjama, Lofa County — The National Lottery Authority has begun a nationwide operation aimed at stamping out illegal gambling activities and tightening oversight of the gaming sector across Liberia.

Launching the initiative over the weekend in Voinjama, NLA Inspector General Alekander Z. Paye said the campaign is being implemented simultaneously in all fifteen counties, with a strong focus on protecting citizens, particularly young people, from the risks associated with unregulated betting.

Paye explained that illegal gambling not only exposes players to fraud and exploitation but also deprives the government of much-needed revenue intended for national development. He stressed that the authority is committed to ensuring that all gaming operations comply fully with the law.

According to the NLA, the campaign blends enforcement with education. Teams working alongside local authorities and security agencies will inspect and shut down unauthorized gambling outlets, while parallel awareness programs will target communities, schools, media institutions, and civil society groups to educate the public on the dangers of illegal betting.

Licensed gaming operators have also been urged to clearly display their operating permits, making it easier for the public to distinguish legitimate businesses from illegal ones.

Local leaders in Lofa County have expressed support for the initiative, pledging to work with the NLA to ensure the message reaches even the most remote communities.
