The Margibi County Police Detachment has confirmed the discovery of human skeletal remains in Lower Margibi County, following a report received on February 21, 2026.

According to police, officers responded to a tip at Division-15 in Firestone, where they found a black plastic bag containing skeletal remains scattered across the area, along with several pieces of clothing believed to be connected to the deceased. The scene, however, had been compromised before law enforcement arrived, as a large crowd reportedly gathered at the location.

Family members who were present at the scene identified the remains as those of Geraldine Joseph, who was reported missing in October 2025.

A fifteen-member jury was subsequently constituted and confirmed that the remains were human bones. The skeletal remains have since been turned over to the appropriate authorities for preservation and further forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Liberia National Police has assured the public that the case remains under active investigation. Police say persons of interest will be identified and invited for questioning as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and to allow investigators to carry out their work, while also encouraging anyone with relevant information to cooperate with the police.
