According to reports, a Liberian national identified as Austin has been brutally beaten to death in Ghana, following a misunderstanding that reportedly stemmed from a joke he shared with a pregnant woman.

According to accounts from eyewitnesses, including both Liberians and Ghanaians, the tragic incident occurred while Austin, a trained technician, was carrying out work at the residence of a Ghanaian friend. Austin, who had been living in Ghana for some time, had gone to the property after being invited to perform technical work.

Upon arrival, the security guard at the gate informed him that the homeowner was not present. Austin reportedly chose to wait and contacted his friend by phone to confirm his arrival. Prior to leaving the house, the homeowner had informed the guard that a technician would be coming and had reportedly left instructions, including keys, to be handed over.

While waiting on the premises, Austin allegedly exchanged light-hearted jokes with a pregnant woman who was also present in the area. The woman reportedly took offense at the remark. Despite Austin offering an apology, she remained dissatisfied and reported the matter to the security personnel at the gate.

Security guards subsequently approached Austin and issued verbal warnings. In an effort to calm the situation, one of the guards contacted Austin’s friend, who apologized for the incident and attempted to defuse tensions. However, the situation escalated when another guard reportedly pursued Austin aggressively, hurling insults at him in a local dialect and referring to him as a “rogue.”

Witnesses say the confrontation quickly drew the attention of nearby individuals, forming an angry mob that joined in chasing Austin. He was eventually caught and severely beaten.

Eyewitnesses report that Austin sustained serious injuries, including internal bleeding, which ultimately led to his death.

The case has since been reported to the Ghana Police Service, and investigations are said to be ongoing. The incident has sparked outrage among Liberians both at home and in the diaspora, with growing calls for justice and accountability.

Austin’s death has renewed concerns over the safety of migrants and foreign nationals and has prompted calls for thorough investigations and the prosecution of all those involved.
