A massive whale washed ashore at Congo Beach yesterday afternoon, drawing a large crowd of residents from the township and surrounding communities. The unexpected arrival of the world’s largest sea creature quickly turned into a scene of curiosity, frenzy, and controversy.
According to witnesses, hundreds of people rushed to the beach after spotting the whale lying lifeless on the shore. Videos and photos circulating on social media show locals cutting pieces of the whale and placing them into bags, tubs, and containers. Some residents reportedly took the meat home for personal consumption, while others planned to sell it in various parts of the township.
The Commissioner of Congo Township, in an unofficial comment, addressed the incident, saying:
“We want to officially inform the public that during the afternoon hours today, hundreds of residents of the Congo Township and others from surrounding communities rushed onto Sheriff Beach after discovering a strange animal on the shores of the ocean. They immediately began to cut the animal into pieces, taking some home for consumption, while others took large quantities to be sold in several parts of the township. We are encouraging all citizens not to purchase meats or strange fish not identified as regular consumable fish or meat. We have no information on what brought the strange animal to the seashore, and for their own safety, we urge them not to transact with anyone selling such meat or fish.”
Witnesses described the scene as a mix of amazement and excitement. “The whale was huge. People started cutting it immediately. Everyone wanted a piece,” said one onlooker who declined to be named.
While many residents appeared fascinated by the creature, experts warn that consuming meat from dead sea animals that wash ashore can pose serious health risks, including exposure to bacteria and toxins.
Authorities have yet to release a formal statement regarding the whale, but the incident has already generated significant attention online and in local media. For many in Congo Township, the appearance of the whale was both a rare spectacle and an unexpected source of food.
The whale, known to be the largest animal on Earth, has now become the center of widespread discussion, leaving residents and observers alike reflecting on the unusual and controversial events of the day.
