Mehnla Town, District 9, Nimba County — A 56-year-old woman, identified by police as Mary Giah, has reportedly confessed during a preliminary investigation to the killing of her three grandchildren in Mehnla Town, District 9, Nimba County.

According to police sources, the suspect admitted earlier today to carrying out the killings. In her statement to investigators, she alleged that her daughter’s boyfriend had repeatedly accused her of practicing witchcraft and provoked her over an extended period. She reportedly told authorities that these accusations fueled her actions.

Police said the three children were found dead in their home early Sunday morning, each suffering fatal wounds to the neck. The victims have been identified as six-year-old Mewaseh Giah, four-year-old Marvelous Zainsaye, and two-year-old Alvina Tokpah.

The children’s mother, 26-year-old Marcy Giah, told investigators that she had left the children in the care of their grandmother on Saturday night and returned around 6:00 a.m. to a horrifying scene. Her youngest child was discovered on the floor with a severe neck wound. A subsequent search of the house led to the discovery of the two older children in a bedroom, both deceased.

Police initially detained the children’s grandfather and an uncle who were visiting from Saclepea as part of standard investigative procedures. Authorities later arrested the grandmother after she reportedly fled the scene. Investigators say the suspect is currently in custody while the case proceeds.

The Liberia National Police has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional details will be released as they become available. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.

The tragic incident has cast a deep pall over Mehnla Town, with community members expressing shock and grief over the loss of three young lives.
