President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has nominated Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah as Liberia’s new Minister of Youth and Sports, marking a significant leadership shift within the Cabinet as the administration realigns key institutions to meet evolving national priorities.
The nomination of Cllr. Kruah follows the reassignment of former Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu, who has been appointed Executive Director of the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC). The move clears the way for new leadership at the Ministry of Youth and Sports at a time when youth empowerment, skills development, and national cohesion remain central to the government’s agenda.
According to the Executive Mansion, President Boakai’s decision reflects a broader strategy to deploy experienced legal and administrative professionals where they are most needed. In nominating Cllr. Kruah, the President is signaling a renewed focus on institutional discipline, policy coherence, and accountability within the youth and sports sector.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports plays a pivotal role in shaping programs that address youth unemployment, civic engagement, and sports development nationwide. Observers note that Cllr. Kruah’s legal background and public service experience position her to navigate the ministry’s complex stakeholder environment while strengthening coordination with national and international partners.
The reshuffle also forms part of a wider government effort to respond to shifting national and regional dynamics. As part of this realignment, President Boakai has tasked the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission with an expanded strategic role in migration management and national security coordination, under the leadership of Cllr. Bangalu.
Additionally, the President has appointed Honorable Jackson Paye as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA), further underscoring the administration’s ongoing institutional reorganization.
All nominations and appointments are subject to confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate, in accordance with the Constitution.
