The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has removed Margibi County Commander, Special Agent Mentor A. Yormie, from his post with immediate effect following the escape of a female drug suspect from custody in the county.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the LDEA announced that Agent Yormie has been disrobed and turned over to the agency’s Internal Board of Inquiry and Professional Standards for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The agency said the Board’s findings and recommendations will be enforced in line with the LDEA Code of Conduct, adding that the public will be kept informed as the process unfolds.
The decision follows the reported escape of Massah Sheriff, who was arrested last week by LDEA agents alongside her husband, Jerry Sheriff. The couple was taken to the LDEA’s Margibi County headquarters in Kakata for preliminary investigation after being found in possession of 84 pieces of Kush and three wraps of cocaine.
According to the LDEA, Massah Sheriff managed to escape from custody just three days after her arrest, raising serious concerns about internal controls and the handling of detainees at the county command level.
The agency has emphasized its commitment to accountability and professionalism, noting that any personnel found responsible for negligence or misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary action in keeping with established regulations.
