Liberia’s law enforcement capacity has received a significant boost following the successful graduation of ten officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) from an intensive international counter-terrorism training program in Rwanda.
The officers completed a rigorous three-month course at the Counter Terrorism Training Center in Mayange, Kigali, an achievement that highlights the LNP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security and develop globally competitive policing standards.
The specialized training exposed participants to critical operational and strategic disciplines, including Routine Staff Work, Map Reading, Introduction to Intelligence, Internal Security Operations, Introduction to Command and Control, Fundamentals of Laws for Policing, and Skills at Arms. These courses were designed to enhance officers’ preparedness in responding to complex security threats and modern policing challenges.
The program was organized by the Rwanda National Police (RNP) and sponsored by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), reflecting a growing regional and international partnership aimed at promoting peace, stability, and professional security services across Africa.
At the graduation ceremony held at the Mayange training center, the Liberian officers delivered an outstanding performance among 177 trainees drawn from various countries. Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Varney Trokon Siaffa Jr. emerged as one of the top performers, earning third place overall and first place within the Liberian delegation.
He was followed by Superintendent Gbarzia Arkor Subah, who placed second among the Liberian contingent, while Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mendin Larmin secured third place within the delegation, an impressive showing that underscored the discipline, competence, and dedication of Liberia’s representatives.
The successful completion of the training is expected to enhance the operational readiness of the Liberia National Police, particularly in counter-terrorism and internal security operations, while also deepening institutional ties with international partners such as the Rwanda National Police and UNITAR.
