The Ministry of Education (MoE) has ordered the temporary closure of House of Prayer Institute, situated in Agape Community, Brewerville Educational District (Right Bank 2), following the conclusion of an investigation triggered by a widely circulated video involving the school.
According to the Ministry, the investigation uncovered numerous and serious breaches of the Education Reform Act and established Ministry regulations. Authorities found that the institution has been operating illegally without a valid Ministry of Education Operational Permit since its inception in 2019, including after its reported reopening in 2025. The school was also not captured in the official district education database, and the District Education Office confirmed it had no prior knowledge of the institution’s operations.
Further findings revealed that the school’s administrators failed to meet the minimum professional qualification standards required by the Ministry. An assessment of the facility determined that it was unsuitable for the academic levels being offered. The institution was also found to be lacking essential regulatory documentation, including policies and mechanisms related to child safeguarding and protection.
The Ministry noted that these compliance lapses were aggravated by the school’s engagement of an entertainer whose performance, recorded in the viral video, was deemed inappropriate for children and contrary to acceptable standards for school-related activities.
In response to these findings, the Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate temporary closure of House of Prayer Institute until it fully satisfies all legal, administrative, and safeguarding requirements necessary to obtain a School Operational Permit. The proprietor of the institution is expected to face fines in line with Ministry regulations for the duration of its unlawful operation.
The Ministry further disclosed that the case is under review for possible referral to the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection, in keeping with national child protection policies and frameworks.
Additionally, the Ministry, through the appropriate District Education Office, will engage parents and guardians of affected learners to communicate the next steps and ensure that arrangements are made for students to continue their education in safe, accredited learning environments.
The Ministry of Education reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of all learners across the country. It emphasized that strict enforcement of regulatory standards applies to both public and private institutions, warning that schools operating outside the law will be held accountable. Parents and guardians were also urged to verify the accreditation status of schools before enrolling their children.
