The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) on Friday conducted a raid at the Paynesville residence of Liberian Hipco and Trapco artist Karwoudou Cole, popularly known as Bucky Raw, following allegations linking him to drug sales.
According to officers, those inside the home initially resisted the search, accusing the agents of misconduct, before the team gained entry to conduct the raid. A Facebook Live video circulating on social media captured the tense scene, showing Bucky Raw and several others exchanging profanities in English and Gio (Dahn) while officers moved through the compound.
During the search, the LDEA reportedly discovered marijuana and a potent cannabis variant commonly referred to as “loud.” Bucky Raw admitted ownership of the substances but insisted they were strictly for personal use. He also claimed that officers took L$60,000 from a small bag during the operation, an allegation the LDEA has not publicly addressed.
In addition to the substances, the video shows Bucky Raw kneeling on the floor untangling black plastic bags containing large sums of cash, while officers demanded explanations. Those present at the residence were taken into custody for questioning, according to the agency.
The raid has ignited widespread public attention, with many Liberians calling for a transparent and fair investigation into both the conduct of the LDEA officers and the claims made by the artist. Authorities have confirmed that the case is still under review, and no formal charges have yet been announced.
This marks the latest chapter in Bucky Raw’s public life. The rapper was deported from the United States in April 2018 for violations of U.S. law. Since returning to Liberia, he has revitalized his music career, built a strong youth following, and positioned himself as a vocal critic of Liberia’s drug crisis, participating in and leading several anti-drug demonstrations in Monrovia.
