The Government of Liberia has officially granted a visa waiver to citizens of the Republic of Rwanda, allowing them to travel freely in and out of Liberia without the need for prior visa arrangements.
In a circular issued by Elijah F. Rufus, Commissioner-General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), the directive takes immediate effect and applies to all points of entry, including air, land, and sea borders.
The decision follows a Reciprocal Visa Waiver Agreement signed on September 10, 2025, between the Government of Liberia and the Government of Rwanda through their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The agreement establishes a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
According to the LIS circular, the new visa reciprocity regime “qualifies citizens of the Republic of Rwanda to travel in and out of Liberia without the previous visa requirements.” All immigration officers have been instructed to facilitate entry for Rwandan nationals by issuing the appropriate entry stamps upon arrival.
Commissioner-General Rufus thanked immigration officers for their continued service, urging them to uphold “distinction, honesty, and integrity” in implementing the new directive.
The visa-free agreement marks another step in regional integration and cooperation between African nations, reflecting ongoing efforts to promote free movement and mutual development across the continent.
