Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) has suspended the NPA Pythons Basketball Club and its entire technical and playing staff from all LBA-related activities for one full season.
The decision, announced by LBA President Abraham B. Samukai during a press conference in Paynesville on Wednesday, follows the team’s failure to appear for Game Four of the 2025 First Division League Finals against the LPRC Oilers.
Background of the Suspension
On October 12, 2025, the NPA Pythons failed to honor their scheduled match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Gymnasium in the Best-of-Five Finals series. The LBA described the team’s conduct as “unprofessional and contrary to the standards, ethics, and regulations” guiding the association.
In response, the LBA Executive Committee held a review meeting on October 28, 2025, to examine the incident in accordance with the association’s constitution and competition rules.
Key Decisions from the Executive Committee
1. Championship Confirmation: The LPRC Oilers are officially declared the 2025 First Division League Champions.
2. Team Suspension: The NPA Pythons, including all registered players, coaches, and technical staff, are suspended from all Liberia Basketball Association competitions for one season.
According to the LBA, the Pythons’ failure to appear for a scheduled finals game without justification constitutes a serious breach of professionalism and damages the credibility of the sport.
LBA’s Statement and Commitment
The Association expressed regret over the disruption caused by the incident and extended an apology to fans, partners, and stakeholders.
“We remain dedicated to upholding the principles of fairness, discipline, and professionalism within Liberian basketball,” said LBA President Abraham B. Samukai. “Our mission is to build trust and ensure that all participating clubs maintain the highest standards of sportsmanship.”
The LBA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening internal systems, enforcing competition rules, and promoting integrity across all levels of the game.
