Central Bank of Liberia Announces December 16 Launch of Inclusive Instant Payment System
The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has announced that its long-awaited Inclusive Instant Payment System (IIPS) will officially launch on December 16, 2025, marking a major milestone in the country’s financial modernization drive.
The launch event is scheduled to take place at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, where policymakers, digital finance providers, mobile money operators, and key industry stakeholders are expected to gather for the unveiling of what the Bank describes as a “transformational” digital payments upgrade.
According to the CBL, the new IIPS, dubbed “Pay Na-Na”, will allow Liberians to send and receive money instantly, securely, and at any time, ending years of delays that have often slowed both personal and business transactions.
One of the most anticipated features is the system’s ability to enable real-time transfers between mobile money platforms, including Lonestar/MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money. This cross-platform system has been a longstanding challenge for users who frequently move funds between the two dominant networks.
The Bank said the system is designed to make digital payments more inclusive, convenient, and efficient for all users, from small business owners and market vendors to corporate institutions and government agencies. IIPS will operate 24/7, ensuring that transfers are not restricted by bank hours, weekends, or holidays.
Financial experts say the move positions Liberia to catch up with regional and global digital payment trends, while also supporting transparency, ease of doing business, and financial inclusion efforts.
The CBL is urging the public to “mark their calendars” for the December 16 launch, promising that Liberian financial services are “about to change forever.”
With “Pay Na-Na,” Liberia enters a new era of instant, integrated, and user-friendly digital payments.
