In a startling revelation, Mrs. Ameria Boyidee Aridi Johnson, widow of the late Nimba County Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, has opened up about her late husband’s life, describing him as “broke” and accusing him of kidnapping her during Liberia’s civil war.
Speaking during a phone interview, Mrs. Johnson claimed that despite her husband’s more than sixteen years in public office, he “left behind no money, property, or bank account.” She said there are no investments or assets in the senator’s name and that his family has been left with nothing.
“He did not leave any money or property behind. There’s nothing for the children or the family,” she stressed, rejecting suggestions that the late senator had secretly invested his income.
Mrs. Johnson also alleged that their relationship began under disturbing circumstances. According to her, in 1991, during the height of Liberia’s civil war, the former warlord kidnapped her and later took her to Nigeria. While there, she claimed, the late Prophet T.B. Joshua encouraged him to marry her.
She further mentioned that the only known properties linked to the late senator’s name are two schools, a church, and the PYJ University. However, she clarified that none of these are registered under his children’s names and that both the PYJ Educational Foundation and PYJ University lack any known bank accounts.
Adding to her account, Mrs. Johnson disclosed that the late senator fathered nine children outside of their marriage, but none of them are recognized beneficiaries of his estate.
Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, who passed away on November 28, 2024, remains one of Liberia’s most controversial figures. A former warlord turned politician and preacher, he was both admired and criticized for his role during the civil war and his later political influence in Nimba County.
