The United States Department of State has announced a major policy update granting Liberian travelers longer visa validity and eliminating reciprocity fees, a move widely viewed as a boost to bilateral relations and cross-border mobility.
According to the updated visa reciprocity schedule released on Tuesday, Liberian applicants for B1 (Business), B2 (Tourism), and B1/B2 (Business/Tourism Combination) visas will now receive multiple-entry visas valid for 36 months, up from the previous 12-month limit. The new measure also removes the reciprocity fee previously applied to Liberian visa holders.
The revised policy, which takes immediate effect, allows qualified Liberian citizens to make repeated trips to the United States for business or tourism over a three-year period without having to reapply annually, a change expected to save time, reduce costs, and simplify travel procedures.
U.S. authorities say the adjustment aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties and promote economic, educational, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the announcement, describing it as a positive step that will “facilitate greater mobility for Liberians and open new avenues for engagement across sectors.”
Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti noted that her office remains committed to expanding Liberia’s diplomatic reach and negotiating policies that bring tangible benefits to Liberian citizens abroad.
The updated U.S. visa policy marks a significant improvement in travel arrangements between Monrovia and Washington, providing Liberians with more flexibility and opportunities to explore business, tourism, and academic prospects in the United States.
