Two Liberian footballers, midfielder Kindness Cole and forward Emmanuel Flomo, could soon grace the 2025–26 Rwanda Premier League with Sudanese side Al Hilal, pending final approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The development comes as three Sudanese powerhouses, Al Hilal, Al Merrikh, and Ahli Wad Madani, await CAF’s green light to compete in Rwanda’s top division, following the continued suspension of football activities in Sudan due to ongoing conflict.
According to the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), the trio has been officially cleared at the national level to join the Rwandan championship. This temporary integration aims to help the clubs remain active while their home league remains on hold, a similar arrangement previously allowed Al Hilal and Al Merrikh to feature in Mauritania’s domestic league last season.
FERWAFA disclosed that the Rwanda Premier League fixture list, which has already completed four rounds, will be adjusted once CAF confirms participation. The league’s management committee is expected to issue an updated schedule and participation guidelines thereafter.
For Liberia, this development represents another milestone in the nation’s expanding football presence across East Africa. Should the approval go through, Cole and Flomo will join the ranks of Liberian players such as Herron Berran and Stanley Whitefield, who have previously competed in the Rwandan top flight.
Their potential debut in Rwanda not only strengthens Liberia’s footprint in African football but also reflects the resilience and adaptability of players seeking opportunities amid regional football disruptions.
