Former Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean Jr., has dismissed allegations linking him to the controversial diamond transaction that recently triggered his arrest order, describing the claims as misleading and inaccurate.
In a statement provided to DN News, Cllr. Dean clarified that the diamond deal in question was entirely managed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, not the Ministry of Justice. He explained that his legal opinion on the matter, based on a detailed internal review, was ignored at the time, and the transaction proceeded as a private sale outside his ministry’s jurisdiction.
“The Ministry of Justice did not seize any diamond,” Dean emphasized, distancing himself and his office from the handling of the gem.
He also pushed back against remarks made by Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus, accusing the current legal counsel of distorting facts and misrepresenting previous interactions.
“Cllr. Cephus says he was a CDCIAN; I was not. Yet, President Weah appointed me Minister of Justice,” Dean stated, adding, “He even claims I placed him under sanction, that’s simply ludicrous.”
The statement comes amid renewed public scrutiny over a disputed mining license and diamond sale in Gbarpolu County, which has drawn high-profile legal and political attention.
