Criminal Court “B” at the Temple of Justice has sentenced Sam Wolobah to life imprisonment for the murder of Samuel Kollie, following his conviction for performing an unauthorized surgical procedure that led to the patient’s death. Presiding Judge Alphanso Wesseh Alphanso delivered the ruling on October 1, 2025.
The court described Wolobah’s actions as deliberate and premeditated, condemning him for establishing what it called a “killing chamber” under the guise of a medical facility. Wolobah, who admitted he was neither a licensed medical doctor nor a certified surgeon, claimed to be an “apprentice medical doctor” who learned surgical techniques while assisting trained physicians.
Prosecutors, however, presented evidence proving Wolobah had no registration, certification, or approval from the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) to perform surgeries. Despite this, he carried out a botched appendectomy on Samuel Kollie, who died on March 19, 2025, just a day after the operation.
During his arraignment on August 18, 2025, Wolobah pleaded not guilty. A fifteen-member jury later found him guilty after hearing testimonies from five key witnesses, including family members and medical authorities.
The court ruled that Wolobah’s negligence and unlawful impersonation of a doctor directly caused the death of the victim, highlighting the dangers posed by unqualified individuals in critical sectors like healthcare.
