Seventeen Liberian nurses have departed for Nairobi, Kenya, to begin a two-year specialized training program at the Kenyatta National Hospital School of Nursing, a move aimed at bolstering Liberia’s capacity in critical healthcare delivery.
The group’s departure was officially facilitated by the Ministry of Health, under a World Bank–funded initiative through the Institutional Foundations to Improve Services for Health (IFISH) Project and the Health Security Project (HeSP).
Drawn from various public health facilities across the country, the nurses will undergo intensive training in specialized fields such as Oncology Nursing, Trauma and Emergency Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Neonatal Nursing, and Nephrology Nursing.
According to the Ministry, the program forms part of ongoing efforts to build a robust and resilient healthcare workforce capable of responding to the nation’s growing medical needs.
Upon completing their studies, the nurses are expected to return to Liberia and apply their advanced expertise to strengthen specialized healthcare services, enhance patient outcomes, and support the Ministry’s long-term goal of ensuring accessible, high-quality health care for all Liberians and residents.
