In a decisive move aimed at strengthening institutional leadership and reforming the country’s telecommunications sector, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has appointed Honorable Clarence Massaquoi as the new Acting Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA).
The appointment follows the recent suspension of Abdullah L. Kamara, who was relieved of his duties earlier this week after a General Auditing Commission (GAC) report linked him to serious allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption. Kamara is currently under investigation by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Ministry of Justice.
According to an official statement from the Executive Mansion, President Boakai expressed full confidence in Mr. Massaquoi’s ability to lead the LTA with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to national interest. The President emphasized that the appointment takes immediate effect.
“I am confident that Honorable Clarence Massaquoi will serve with integrity, diligence, and loyalty to the country,” President Boakai stated in his letter of appointment.
Mr. Massaquoi, a seasoned public servant and former legislator, is expected to steer the LTA during a critical period as the government pushes for transparency, technological innovation, and regulatory effectiveness in the sector.
The President’s move is part of a broader effort to ensure competent leadership across key public institutions as part of his administration’s reform agenda. The Executive Mansion noted that this appointment reflects the President’s “vision to strengthen institutional performance and accelerate national development through capable and trusted leadership.”
President Boakai also used the moment to call on all government officials to demonstrate diligence, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, reminding public servants that loyalty to country must remain the guiding principle of national service.

Mr. Massaquoi’s appointment has already drawn positive reactions from some political and civil society circles, who see the decision as a strong signal that the Boakai administration remains serious about accountability and results-driven governance.
Geez Liberia will continue to follow this development and provide insights into the LTA’s direction under its new leadership.
