Tokadeh, Nimba County, In a landmark event for Liberia’s economy and industrial future, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is set to officially inaugurate ArcelorMittal’s state-of-the-art US$1.4 billion concentrator plant in Tokadeh today. The event marks a transformative moment in the country’s mining sector and a powerful statement of confidence in Liberia’s investment climate.
The concentrator plant, part of ArcelorMittal’s ambitious Phase II expansion, represents one of the largest private sector investments in Liberia’s modern history. As one of the world’s leading steel and mining companies, ArcelorMittal’s multi-billion-dollar commitment is expected to generate over 6,000 jobs for Liberians, providing fresh economic lifelines to thousands of families across Nimba and beyond.
The facility is designed to significantly enhance the processing and export of high-grade iron ore from Liberia, improving efficiency and adding value to the country’s natural resources. By increasing processing capacity on Liberian soil, the project signals a shift toward greater industrialization and value retention within the country.
President Boakai’s attendance at the inauguration demonstrates his administration’s strategic focus on fostering robust public-private partnerships and attracting sustainable foreign investment. Since assuming office, the Boakai-led government has emphasized job creation, industrial growth, and improved livelihoods as cornerstones of its national development agenda.

“This investment is not just about infrastructure or exports, it’s about the people,” a senior official in the Ministry of Mines and Energy told Geez Liberia. “It’s about creating long-term opportunities, strengthening our economy, and proving that Liberia is open for responsible business.”
Excitement and optimism have gripped the Tokadeh region in the run-up to the ceremony, with thousands of locals and dignitaries expected to attend. The event will bring together government officials, ArcelorMittal executives, traditional leaders, and international stakeholders, all witnessing what many are calling a “turning point” in Liberia’s post-war development.
As Liberia charts a path toward economic renewal, the launch of the concentrator plant stands as a powerful reminder of what is possible through collaboration, ambition, and belief in the nation’s potential.
Today’s ceremony is not just the unveiling of a facility, it is the unveiling of hope, growth, and a renewed vision for Liberia’s future.
