President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has signed Executive Order No. 150, continuing the suspension of import tariffs on rice, Liberia’s most essential food commodity. The decision, announced today by the Executive Mansion, is aimed at reducing the high cost of living and ensuring every Liberian can afford the nation’s staple.
This new Executive Order extends provisions from Executive Order No. 125, specifically removing import duties on two major rice categories:
HS Code 1006.30.10.00 – Semi-milled or wholly milled rice (whether or not polished or glazed) in packings of more than 5kg or in bulk HS Code 1006.40.00.00 – Broken rice
The suspension of tariffs takes immediate effect, signaling the Boakai administration’s urgent response to growing public concern over rising food prices and economic hardships.

“This measure is part of our broader strategy to stabilize the market, promote food security, and provide economic relief for Liberians,” President Boakai stated. “We are committed to protecting the purchasing power of our people and ensuring national food stability in the face of global economic pressures.”
The President has directed the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Liberia Revenue Authority, and all relevant agencies to ensure full enforcement of the order across the country.
As rice remains a cornerstone of daily consumption in Liberian households, the move is expected to positively impact market prices and help ease the financial strain on families.
Executive Order No. 150 reaffirms the Boakai administration’s pro-poor agenda, signaling continued efforts to address food insecurity and improve the livelihood of ordinary citizens.
