In a major diplomatic development, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially nominated former Maryland County Senator John Ballout as Liberia’s Ambassador Designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The nomination was read during Thursday’s session of the Liberian Senate, currently in its regular sitting on Capitol Hill.
Ballout, a seasoned politician and former lawmaker, is widely known for his strong diplomatic interests and regional connections during his tenure in the Legislature. If confirmed, he will represent Liberia in one of its most strategic diplomatic posts within the West African subregion.

President Boakai’s nomination of Ballout signals a move to strengthen Liberia’s bilateral ties with Nigeria, a key political and economic partner in ECOWAS and the African Union.
The Senate is expected to conduct a confirmation hearing and forward the nomination to its Committee on Foreign Affairs for vetting in the coming days.
