Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr. has strongly rejected recent accusations by the Government of Liberia, describing the official statement issued by the Ministry of Information as “baseless, malicious, and politically motivated.”
The government had earlier alleged that Snowe vowed to use his connections in ECOWAS to destabilize President Joseph Boakai’s administration and make the country ungovernable until he becomes president, a claim the senator has vehemently denied.
In a press release dated May 25, 2025, Snowe expressed “deep concern and profound disappointment” over what he called an attempt to damage his reputation and undermine his credibility as a public servant and statesman.
“Let me state, unequivocally and for the record: I categorically reject and condemn these allegations as entirely baseless, malicious, and politically motivated,” the senator said.
Snowe, who is currently on official assignment in the Kingdom of Sweden as part of an ECOWAS Parliamentary mission, announced he is immediately terminating his international engagement to return to Liberia and confront the issue head-on.
“This irresponsible and reckless statement amounts to nothing less than an implicit accusation of treason, one of the gravest charges under our Constitution that I do not take lightly,” he added.
He further described the government’s actions as part of a “calculated and malicious smear campaign” aimed at intimidating and silencing opposition voices. Snowe has officially notified the Liberian Senate of the incident and called for a full, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Additionally, the senator appealed to ECOWAS, the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and Liberia’s international partners to monitor the situation closely and guard against what he described as “an emerging pattern of political intimidation and persecution.”
Despite the controversy, Snowe reaffirmed his commitment to democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, saying he remains undeterred in the fight for accountability and justice.
“May God continue to bless the Republic of Liberia,” he concluded.
The government has not yet responded to Snowe’s latest statement.
