In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decisive ruling affirming the legitimacy of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s leadership in the House of Representatives, Senator Amara M. Konneh has issued a strong appeal for national reconciliation and adherence to the rule of law.
The Supreme Court’s judgment, delivered earlier this week, declared all actions taken outside the constitutional framework, and without the presence of the duly elected Speaker, unconstitutional. The ruling effectively ends the legal dispute over the House’s leadership but leaves lingering political tensions in its wake.
Senator Konneh, representing Gbarpolu County, emphasized the importance of respecting the Court’s decision, regardless of political disagreements.
“The Supreme Court is the final arbiter of justice in our democracy,” he stated. “Its rulings are binding, and we must honor them, not selectively, but fully and without hesitation. To do otherwise risks undermining the very foundations of our nation.”
He warned against any attempts to disregard the ruling, stressing that such actions could lead to lawlessness and instability. “When we begin to pick and choose which court decisions to follow, we no longer have a functioning democracy,” he cautioned.

While the Supreme Court’s decision settles the legal dispute, Senator Konneh acknowledged that political divisions persist. He called on Liberia’s religious and civil society leaders, particularly the Inter-Faith Religious Council, which has historically mediated national crises, to step in and foster dialogue.
“Legal rulings alone cannot heal societal tensions,” he noted. “We need trusted institutions to bridge divides, promote understanding, and guide us toward unity.”
In his statement, Konneh urged political leaders to prioritize Liberia’s stability above partisan interests.
“Disagreement is natural in a democracy, but disrespect for the law is not,” he said. “We must act with restraint, responsibility, and patriotism. Liberia’s future is bigger than any individual ambition.”
His message resonated with many citizens weary of political infighting, as social media reactions showed support for his call for calm and institutional respect.
As Liberia moves forward from this crisis, the focus now shifts to whether political actors will heed the Court’s ruling and whether mediation efforts can ease lingering tensions. For Senator Konneh, the path is clear: “We owe it to ourselves and future generations to uphold the rule of law and preserve our democracy.”
The Office of Senator Amara M. Konneh reiterated its commitment to working within legal and constitutional frameworks to ensure peace and progress for Liberia.
