The gruesome discovery of a commercial motorcyclist’s body, tied to a bike and stuffed in a plastic bag near the LPMC bypass in Ganta, has sent shockwaves through the community, raising urgent concerns over the safety of riders in the area.
The victim, identified as Papie Darlor, popularly known as “50-50,” was a 45-year-old Guinean national who had lived in Liberia for decades, working as a commercial bike rider. A well-known figure in Ganta, Darlor was reportedly brought to Liberia years ago by Vice President Jeremiah Koung, initially working as a store boy before transitioning to motorcycle transport.
Darlor’s death marks the fourth mysterious killing of a motorcyclist in Ganta in recent times, deepening fears among riders and residents.
Just last month, 25-year-old Richard Gramie Gaye was found dead under a pile of crushed rocks, his motorbike missing. Before that, two other riders were shot and killed in separate incidents, with their bikes stolen.
The repeated attacks have left the motorcycle community on edge, with many questioning whether a criminal syndicate is targeting riders for robbery or if there are darker motives at play.
Authorities have assembled a 15-member coroner jury to determine the cause of Darlor’s death. Early reports indicate his body bore bruises and scars, suggesting possible foul play.
Adding to the mystery, conflicting accounts surround the motorbike found tied to his body. Some claim it was his own, while others say his original bike was stolen and replaced with an older model.
Commercial motorcyclists in Ganta are now demanding better protection, urging local authorities and police to intensify patrols and investigations. Many riders say they no longer feel safe working at night, fearing they could be the next victims.
Community leaders and human rights advocates have also called for swift justice, emphasizing that the recurring killings threaten not just the livelihoods of riders but the broader sense of security in Nimba County.
As the investigation continues, residents wait anxiously for answers, hoping that the perpetrators behind these brutal acts will soon be brought to justice.
