The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has hailed the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on the House of Representatives leadership dispute as a victory for the rule of law while condemning what it describes as “reckless defiance” by Representative Richard Koon and his allies.
In a strongly worded statement, the ANC demanded immediate compliance with the Court’s decision, warning that continued resistance risks plunging Liberia into a constitutional crisis. The party also urged President Joseph Boakai to take decisive action in upholding judicial authority.
The Supreme Court’s verdict, delivered earlier today, settled a contentious power struggle within the Legislature, reaffirming that no political faction is above the law. The ANC praised the ruling as a necessary intervention to preserve Liberia’s democratic institutions.

“The Court has spoken clearly, this unlawful power grab must end,” the party declared. “Representative Koon and his so-called ‘Majority Bloc’ must respect the decision or face the consequences of their actions.”
The ANC accused Koon and his allies of undermining democracy by refusing to acknowledge the Court’s authority. Their defiance, the party warned, threatens to destabilize Liberia’s hard-won democratic progress.
“Liberians have suffered enough from political instability,” the statement read. “We cannot allow a few individuals to drag us backward with illegal maneuvers and disregard for constitutional order.”
The ANC also turned its attention to President Boakai, calling on him to move beyond neutrality and enforce the Court’s ruling.
“Silence is not an option,” the party asserted. “The President swore an oath to defend the Constitution. He must now ensure that the rule of law prevails, not through words, but through action.”
Recognizing Liberia’s fragile democracy, the ANC appealed to global partners to remain vigilant against any attempts to weaken judicial independence.
“We call on the international community to stand with Liberia in this critical moment,” the statement said. “The world must not stay silent as elected officials attempt to seize power unlawfully.”
Reaffirming its stance, the ANC pledged to resist any efforts to undermine Liberia’s legal and democratic framework, vowing to stand with citizens who demand accountability and justice.
“The Liberian people deserve leaders who respect the law, not those who prioritize power over principle,” the party concluded. “We will not back down in defending our democracy.”
As tensions escalate in Monrovia, all eyes remain on whether Rep. Koon’s faction will comply, and whether President Boakai will intervene to enforce the Court’s ruling.
