In a heartfelt and reflective social media post, Liberian music icon CIC, has hinted at stepping away from the industry, expressing confidence in the rising wave of young artists carrying the culture forward.
The veteran artist took to Facebook to praise the unity and collaboration among today’s musicians, a stark contrast to the competitive landscape he experienced when he first started.
“Mehn, when I started music, this was all I wanted, but my era wasn’t thinking in this direction,” CIC wrote. “You all can stay competitive but don’t ever let anyone divide y’all. Keep the brotherhood together at all costs.”
His message struck a chord with fans and fellow artists, many of whom see CIC as a trailblazer who helped shape Liberia’s Hipco and Afrobeat scene. He went on to commend the new generation’s talent, humorously acknowledging their impact: “Pekin em making me look too old!”
In a touching show of support, CIC announced plans to release a curated playlist featuring the young artists he’s been listening to, a symbolic passing of the baton.
“I’ll retire and leave this thing for y’all because I trust y’all can take it from here,” he declared, leaving many to wonder if this marks the official end of an era.
Fans flooded the comments with gratitude, calling him a legend and thanking him for paving the way. Meanwhile, up-and-coming artists expressed their admiration, vowing to uphold the unity he championed.
As Liberia’s music scene continues to evolve, one thing is clear: CIC’s legacy will live on, not just through his own music, but through the next generation he believes in.
