A 22-year-old man, Foday Gbanja, accused of killing a coconut seller in the Banjor community on the final day of the National County Sport Meets, has been escorted to the Monrovia Central Prison pending trial.
The accused reportedly stabbed the 14-year-old boy, Enoch Johnson during heated exchanges after he went to buy coconut from the kid. The altercation turned brutal and the deceased was stabbed multiple times with his own coconut knife. After he was arrested, the accused, claimed that the incident was not just about his change after buying the coconuts, as it was initially reported.
According to him, after purchasing a coconut, he requested his change and was trying to leave when the victim, Enoch Johnson, allegedly called him a “zoko”, a word, often used to describe disadvantaged youths in Liberia, which sparked an exchange of words between the two. What began as a verbal dispute quickly spiraled into violence, leading Foday to use Enoch’s own coconut knife to stab him.
The suspect has been primarily charged with aggravated assault and first degree murder and taken to the Monrovia Central Prison pending his official trial in court.
