The quiet of Bokon Community, Lower Virginia, was shattered on February 12 when gunfire echoed through the area, leaving behind a tragic aftermath. The Liberia National Police (LNP) now finds itself at the center of another investigation, this time involving one of its own, Officer Boimah Massallay of the Police Support Unit (PSU).
Massallay’s service weapon was discharged during an encounter, resulting in the death of a man identified as Talking Tom. What led to that fatal moment? That’s the question on everyone’s lips. For now, the details remain murky, with the LNP urging patience as they work to piece together the full story. But for those closest to the deceased, patience is a hard ask when grief and unanswered questions weigh so heavily.
Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman wasted no time addressing the situation, offering words of condolence to the bereaved family while assuring the public that the investigation would be thorough and impartial. “My thoughts and prayers are with the family. The Liberia National Police remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and justice,” he said. “We treat this incident seriously and have initiated a prompt investigation to establish the facts.”

Words of reassurance, but in a country where tensions between civilians and law enforcement often simmer beneath the surface, skepticism is inevitable. Was this a justified use of force, or another case of excessive policing? The LNP insists that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of truth, with Officer Massallay already placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the probe.
Beyond the official statements, a community mourns. A man has lost his life. A family is left to pick up the pieces. And a nation watches, waiting to see whether justice will truly be served.
