Bo Waterside in Grand Cape Mount County became the latest battleground in Liberia’s ongoing war against drug trafficking as officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) made a significant bust. A whopping 2.34 kilograms of cocaine, valued at $126,846 USD (L$24,734,970), was seized from a Nigerian suspect attempting to smuggle the illicit substance into the country.

The incident unfolded on February 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, when LDEA officers stationed at the Bo Waterside border post flagged down 44-year-old David Dioumessy, a Nigerian national residing in Conakry, Guinea. Traveling with a Guinean-issued ECOWAS passport (No. 001070389), Dioumessy raised suspicion when he attempted to evade a routine search near a warehouse. A closer inspection of his suitcase confirmed officers’ instincts—it was stuffed with cocaine.
Dioumessy is now cooling off in LDEA custody as investigations continue. Authorities have vowed to dig deeper, uncover potential accomplices, and clamp down on drug smuggling networks operating within and beyond Liberia’s borders.

Drug trafficking remains a major challenge in Liberia, fueling crime, addiction, and social decay. The LDEA has called on the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support efforts to keep dangerous substances off the streets.
With this latest seizure, the agency is sending a strong message: Liberia is not a safe haven for drug traffickers. The fight against narcotics is far from over, but every victory counts in the battle to protect the nation’s future.
