The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) is once again at the center of political drama as one of its longstanding stalwarts, Hon. Solomon C. George, has announced his resignation, citing a toxic internal culture of betrayal, intimidation, and dishonesty.
In a fiery resignation letter addressed to CDC Chairman Cllr. Janga A. Kowo, the former Montserrado District #7 Representative did not hold back in his criticisms of former President George M. Weah, accusing him of backstabbing and fostering a party riddled with hypocrisy and deception.
“Amb. George M. Weah had at most times lied to me, stabbed me in the back, and pretended as if we were on the same page in doing the right thing for the young people of the party and the country,” George wrote, exposing deep-seated frustrations that had apparently been building up for years.
George, who had been a vocal and unwavering supporter of Weah, expressed his disappointment over the party’s descent into chaos. He lamented that the CDC, once a movement built on the principles of change and empowerment, had been infiltrated by individuals with selfish and “ungodly” intentions, using Weah’s influence for personal gain.
The ex-Representative further revealed that for the past four months, he had been deliberately sidelined, with party officials blocking his access to CDC communication channels. According to him, his dissenting voice had become a target, leading to threats and intimidation from within the party.
“It has come to the point where he [Weah] is sending people to come after me,” George claimed, warning that any threats or actions against him would be met with legal resistance.
Beyond personal grievances, George’s letter exposed what he described as a crumbling CDC, plagued by poor leadership, internal strife, and an apparent disregard for democratic principles. He pointed out that despite multiple attempts over the past four years to reconcile with Weah, all efforts had been ignored.
His parting words were as powerful as they were damning:
“I joined the CDC because of Amb. George M. Weah, and I am leaving the CDC because of Amb. George M. Weah.”
The shock resignation of a key CDC figure has sent ripples through Liberia’s political landscape, raising fresh concerns about the party’s future and its ability to maintain unity. With internal divisions growing more apparent, all eyes are now on Weah and the CDC leadership to see how they will respond to these damning accusations.
As of now, the party has yet to issue a statement addressing George’s explosive resignation and allegations. But one thing is clear: the CDC’s internal cracks are widening, and the political storm is far from over.
