The streets of Monrovia are no stranger to the whispers of the underworld, but this time, the drama unfolded right at Roberts International Airport (RIA). In the quiet hours of February 1, while most of the city was asleep, LDEA officers made a shocking discovery, a Kenyan woman, 37-year-old Larnah B. Arondo, stepping off Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-933 with a deadly package.
Tucked away in the frame of a canopy, officers uncovered a staggering 8.642 kilograms of heroin, worth an estimated $388,890. That’s nearly four hundred thousand dollars of destruction, attempting to slip into Liberia under the cover of darkness.

Madam Arondo didn’t waste time trying to deny her fate. During interrogation, she quickly pointed fingers at a Nigerian man in Thailand—someone named Alex. According to her, he handed her the package with strict instructions to deliver it to a Liberian contact, Abel Somah Gbedia. A middleman? A pawn? Or just another link in a much bigger chain?
What’s more concerning is how deep this rabbit hole goes. With Gbedia now in custody alongside Arondo, one can’t help but wonder, who else is involved? Who in Liberia was truly expecting that delivery? Because let’s be honest, drug trafficking isn’t a solo sport.
For now, the LDEA continues its investigation, but one thing is clear: the battle against drug smuggling is far from over. The real masterminds? They’re still out there, orchestrating moves from the shadows.
