A Liberian lady, Vickjune Headliner Wutoh, has taken time to send out a very important advice about Self Development to the youths of Liberia. As we already know, time waits for no one, yet many young people spend it chasing fleeting distractions or championing causes that don’t add value to their lives. Vickjune Headliner Wutoh’s words are a wake-up call, urging the youth to prioritize their personal growth over temporary loyalties or superficial appearances.
“By the time you finish raising battle cries, calling radio stations, or jumping under every post to defend your corrupt leader, mentor, or teacher — boom, six years have passed, and you’re already 45,” Wutoh writes. His message is clear: misplaced priorities and blind allegiance can rob you of the time you could use to build a brighter future.
Instead of focusing on self-improvement, many shy away from honest, hard work. Selling cold water, starting a small garden, or shining shoes may not be glamorous, but they’re stepping stones to independence. Yet, fear of judgment from peers often holds young people back. “You say no because your girlfriend or boyfriend will see you, and you will be ashamed,” Wutoh emphasizes, pointing out the damaging effects of pride and societal pressure.
Grey hair doesn’t appear overnight, but it’s a stark reminder that time is passing. “When grey hair starts popping up in your private and public places, that’s when you’ll know you should’ve focused on your self-development and empowerment,” Wutoh warns.
This advice is a call to action: young people must take control of their lives now. Invest in yourself, embrace hard work, and choose self-improvement over temporary distractions. After all, the years will pass whether you use them wisely or waste them.
So, as Wutoh says, “Continue gbo, you strong.” But remember, strength without purpose leads nowhere.
