The Liberian football community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Black Man Warrior’s defensive midfielder, Amara Kamara, 17, who tragically passed away 15 days after sustaining a critical injury during a match against Bea Mountain on January 8 at D-Tweh Field.
Amara’s injury led to a series of urgent medical efforts. Initially taken to Redemption Hospital, he was later transferred to JFK Hospital due to the severity of his condition. Despite these efforts, his health showed no signs of improvement. A subsequent transfer to Catholic Hospital revealed a devastating diagnosis of a chronic spinal cord injury, necessitating immediate surgery.

Hopes were pinned on taking Amara to Ghana for the operation after it became clear that local medical facilities lacked the equipment needed for such a complex procedure. The club, alongside his family, worked tirelessly to arrange his travel. However, delays in booking flights forced them to resort to traveling by road—a decision that ultimately ended in tragedy.
Amara passed away while en route to Ghana, accompanied by his mother and club officials, leaving behind a community shattered by grief.
This young talent was not only a rising star for Black Man Warrior but also a beacon of hope for Liberian football. He had recently showcased his skills on an international stage, representing the U17 team at the Helsinki Tournament in Finland, where he left an indelible mark.
Amara’s passing is a profound reminder of the challenges faced by athletes in countries with limited healthcare infrastructure. His untimely death highlights the urgent need for better medical support for our players, who risk their lives for the love of the game.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Amara’s family, teammates, and all who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his family find strength during this unimaginably difficult time.
